Chapter 1
Of is tired. No, not tired, exhausted. It seems as though sleepless centuries have passed since she left the base with the others. Maybe centuries have passed. She doesn't know anymore. All she knows is that she will not stop searching until she finds him. For the hundredth…the thousandth…maybe the millionth time, she remembers how all this trouble began…

"Of! Of! OF! WAKE UP!" The yelled, shaking Of violently.
Of groaned. "Whudyawant?" she asked. Glancing at the clock beside her bunk, she swore quietly. "It's 2 AM…can't it wait?"
"No, it can't!" The yelled, nearly in hysterics. "Be has gone missing!"

It would be irrelevant and time-consuming to attempt to explain faster-than-light travel. Explanations of such things should be reserved for those actually interested in them. Suffice it to say, it works.
It took the five guardians just under three weeks to travel from the base to Earth. They did not know where the base was, other than that it was on an Earth-sized moon orbiting a massive gas giant somewhere. For reasons of security, neither they nor the rest of the former inhabitants of the moon knew exactly where it was located. Judging by their travel time, they could have estimated that it was approximately 700 light-years fro
Chapter 4
Eventually, five people dressed in identical white lab coats entered the room. Of was reminded of nature documentaries displaying how certain animals camouflage themselves in order to blend into their surroundings. These people seemed to be doing just that—their white lab coats matched the white room perfectly. She also noted that, of the five who entered, three were men and two were women—just as there were three men and two women in her own group.
One of the women who had just entered spoke up. "No need to be worried. We just need to perform a harmless memory tap on each of you. We need as much information about what you h

"How can we possibly do that?" And challenged. "None of us remembers how we got in…so how are we going to get out?"
"Do we have any other options?" Of asked, barely containing her frustration. "Face it—no one is going to come for us. Either we try to find our way out, or we starve here." As if to add emphasis to her point, The's stomach growled loudly.
"Someone will come!" retaliated And, not even trying to contain her frustration. "You just used the President's personal telephone, and admitted that you were not the President! D'you think they'll just leave us here after something like that?"
"And how long will it take, th
Chapter 6
No one did or said anything for several minutes after this. Yes's breathing was still ragged, his face shining with sweat and tears. Had Of thought to look at No at this moment, she would have seen tears in his eyes, as well. All she could think about was what Yes had said. That void…what was it? Where did it come from? Did it "come from" somewhere? And what was its purpose, or lack thereof? It must have something to do with the disappearing words…with the vanished population of their base…maybe even with the strange absence of people in this building.
The finally broke the silence. Speaking softly as though he feared bei
